Week 15 - Methods 1
My Group's Learning Activity:
Attention Getter - Teacher does a "volcano" reaction in front of the class getting students' minds thinking.
Question - How can you recreate the volcano reaction at your table and what can you hypothesis about the particles in the reaction? How does the amount of ingredients used affect the chemical reaction? (Change vocabulary and wording for elementary students)
Materials - Vinegar, baking soda, baggies, science investigation worksheets, spoons, measuring tools.
Process - Student groups will all have their own materials at their tables. They will work together to investigate the reactions, amounts, and fill out the worksheets. After everyone has concluded their investigations, the class will come together and discuss what was found.
Through this lesson creation we found out that more vinegar means more expansion and fizzing in the reaction. After we all finished up in our groups, we discussed with our neighbors. We asked each other questions and complimented both ideas.
A remaining question I am left with after today is how do I truly capture student attention and keep them having fun?
